Historic Preservation is important because the past shapes the future giving us valued inspiration and  substance.

Why preserve the past?  A closer look may reveal answers besides the obvious to revive history; we can vicariously experience documented events and our past becomes alive as with the living history in character at Williamsburg, Virginia.

Travel back in time to colonial America and ask questions; be very amazed by the responses spoken in a period dialect. Every effort is made to transform reality to an authentic replication preserved as if frozen in time.
The same experience can be relived by visiting the home of George Washington, in Mount Vernon, Virginia.  A new history museum displays artifacts and the legacy of our first President.  Visit on his birthday (February 22nd) to enjoy the festive celebration; the admission is free!
Look closely at the buildings in your neighborhood. Pick a curiosity and pursue the past to unlock a mystery. Or become involved with one of the many historic preservation associations throughout the U.S.
Preservation restores a period in time for architecture and interior spaces.  Our history becomes a treasured heritage we leave as a legacy to the future.
There are too many structures in the U.S. that can inspire you to take interest in this subject.  Some are listed on a historic register, and many others  should be included.  Click here for a virtual tour of interiors and architecture in America.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation has a mission to provide leadership, education, advocacy, and resources. The goal is to save America’s diverse historic places which become revitalized communities as listed in the section, “Regional Sites” and most importantly become aware of the “Eleven Most Endangered Sites”. Click here to visit the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

And who benefits from the association’s leadership?  Everyone, not just the historian, but collectors or observers can witness history, research, interpret, and educate others about our treasured past.
The Historic Charleston Foundation says, "its mission is to preserve and protect the unique historical, architectural cultural character of Charleston and the Lowcountry area that surrounds it."  Read more about Historical Charleston, SC here.
